Let’s talk anime!
WAGMAA is well and truly on the way! As a Gal Holder, you get to go behind the scenes and see the anime being created with real-time sneak peeks and industry insights.
You can also jump into WAGMAA assignments, where holders get the chance to creatively contribute to the anime production!
Things are busy in the anime studio and Director Ayaka has barely been sleeping with the amount of work to do lately. 頑張ってね!
The music video and longer form anime production are being developed in parallel as we speak, so let’s break them down one at a time.
The Sound of Music (Video)!
The Galverse music video is cruising through production week to week. We’re past Storyboards, almost done with Layouts, and well into Key Animation.
We can’t reveal the musician or release date just yet, but things are moving fast. Next month’s newsletter should be one to look out for!
In the meantime, check out some of the amazing materials coming out of the animation studio for the music video:
Zero’s Final Character Design!
Our main character Zero has made her way through the entire character design process!
Starting with Ayaka’s initial sketches and character designs, you can see the anime studio’s professional character designer take Zero through the rough sketch stage, cleaned up outlines, shadowing, and finally the coloring process.
It’s great to see Zero come to life. This character sheet will be used as a reference by the animators and director to give her a consistent look and style throughout the animation.
Director Ayaka has given detailed feedback throughout the character design process - trying to capture the specific shapes, lines, and shadowing of characters from 90s era anime.
Layouts coming to life!
We can’t share the MV storyboard just yet - no spoilers allowed! But, we can tell you the animation is made up of 119 amazing cuts.
You can think of each cut like an individual camera shot in a movie. Typically, every frame in the storyboard becomes a cut which makes its way through the Layout, Key Animation, In Between Animation, and Compositing processes.

Layouts are the first step on that road to a finished animation! You can see a breakdown of a layout above. It’s more detailed than the frame on a storyboard. It describes camera movements, and roughly shows the animation of characters, objects and effects in a scene.
Each layout is checked by Director Ayaka, the animation director, and character designers in the anime studio before moving to the key animation stage.
Gal Holders get to see way more behind the scenes material and take part in WAGMAA challenges in our Discord community!
Discord livestreams!
Speaking of Discord, Ayaka has been sharing a lot of her work on livestreams in recent days. Her streaming schedule is unpredictable, but we do our best to announce every stream to Holders when she comes online.
She’s also recording timelapses of her work creating and correcting animation which we’ll be sharing in Discord and on our socials! Keep an eye out!
Right on Schedule!
Our anime schedule graphic is so huge that it doesn’t even fit on the newsletter. But that’s okay! Moving on from the music video, we’re forging ahead on the main animation.
While the music video is partway through the key animation process, the main anime is a bigger, more complex affair. On top of being a much bigger piece of work, there’s extra elements like voice acting and CG work that we don’t need to take care of.
Luckily, some of the work carries across - like Character Design - and we’re meeting weekly with top notch screenwriters from the industry to get the scenario together.
WAGMAA - Write the Script with us!
On that note - Gal Holders just had the chance to contribute to the script too! Ayaka walked out of our last screenwriting meeting with a scene that needed an extra bit of spice from our community.
We asked for catchphrases for when Zero enters the Brink of the Universe for the first time and the other Gals welcome her in!
It’s a great scene. The atmosphere of the Brink feels like a girls’ school, full of fun, excitement and chatter. What’s the memorable line that we’ll first hear when she appears?
Star Guardian! Art Collabo Drop!
We've partnered with a number of artists we love in the Web3 space and beyond to release a series of Galverse-inspired collaborations over the upcoming months!
For the first drop, we're proud to present... Leisha's Star Guardian!
Leisha, the artist behind Super Geisha, created this stunning artwork, reimagining one of the Geisha team’s Gal PFP collection in a fantastical new light.
Leisha’s artworks draw inspiration from manga, Asian culture, and everyday objects. For Star Guardian, Leisha has created a dreamy and surreal composition that captures the essence of the Galverse world, infused with her own unique artistic vision and perspective.
All Gal Holders had the chance to claim this special artwork for free via the Galverse vending machine. Keep an eye out for the next drop coming out this month.
You can find more of Leisha’s work on her website.
Galverse in the Metaverse!
Galverse crossed into the VR realm tthis month with the help of an amazing friend! Japan's top VR artist, Aimi Sekiguchi, tranformed into a superstar Gal for her first solo exhibition in Dubai.
Ayaka created a custom Gal and sketched some artworks that became part of a collaborative artwork on display at her exhibition. You can see a video snippet of the artwork on the tweet below!
NFT Art Tokyo and the Cosmic Exchange
Tokyo has been buzzing with Web3 and NFT events lately! NFT Art Tokyo 3 (NAT3) was held right in the middle of Shibuya. While Galverse didn’t set up a stall this time around, we worked with some friends to spread the word about our Cosmic Scramble!
Thanks to Asami, Matchan from Iri-Do, and Nina from Xan Xan for helping us share the flyers with lots of new communities across Tokyo!
Gal community superstar Kihi illustrated this piece, and Devin finished it with text inspired by classic 映画チラシ chirashi movie flyers!
If you know of another Japanese language community that would like to join the Cosmic Scramble, get in touch with us on Discord or Twitter!
A New Community Appears!
The Cosmic Scramble grew even bigger this month. Our friends from City Pop Tokyo 1984 have joined the scramble and are chatting in our cross-server Japanese web3 channel!
It’s great to see another community jump into the scramble, and it brings us one step closer to the Scramble’s goal - uniting NFT communities across Japan!
Emi spreading the word in Lisbon!
Emi was in Portugal for Non Fungible Conference in Lisbon! She got up on stage during the lightning rounds and told her NFT story, including Galverse of course!
Her mother, an artist, also made it up on stage in a very touching moment. Emi was lucky to meet Gal Holders from all over Europe at the conference. In a moment of serindipity, one even rescued her when she tripped on some steps! Like a moment from an anime!
Gals in the Verse! Community favorites!
There’s a lot of excellent community spotlights to shine this month. VTubers seem to be the big hit - don’t forget to upgrade your Gal in the Vending Machine and join in too!
Boo showed off their sparkling new PFP - adding a bit of personality to their Gal’s expression with the VTuber!
Speaking of Boo, they also shared their new Lens profile! If you got your Lens profile via Galverse, we’re sharing our profiles in the #gals-follow-gals channel in Discord!
